About Our Project

The company we use:

FamilyTreeDNA is the independent lab for all the DNA collection and results. After submitting your request for your DNA, they will process it and post the results on their web site. An e-mail will be sent to you with a kit number and password. Periodically FTDNA will e-mail you with results from other members that match your own.

The scheduling time when the kit goes to the lab for processing and the availability of results for all test is 6 – 8 weeks. The kits go to the lab in batches every week. The number of kits in the batch, and/or being rerun due to inconclusive results, could alter the time schedule. Our experience has shown, the y-dna37 has been the best choice for cost and matching other testers.

If you are ordering for another person, please fill the page with the details of the person being tested, and the address where you want the kit to be shipped. Once you press the "Continue" button at the bottom of the page, you will be directed to another page that will ask for the details of the person paying for the test.

Donations
Our treasurer, Joe Morgan handles the account for the donations. The funds are to cover web cost and DNA fees if approved by the membership. On occasion a Doughty-Doty would like to participate in the DNA Project but lacks the necessary funds to do so. Other times we may find a willing DNA donor in a branch that has yet to be tested but he is not interested in genealogy or paying for the test.

Since the project is open to all Doty-Doughty males - we hate to miss any opportunity. You never know what the next result will bring.

Posting your results
Once your results are posted by FTDNA, the group webmaster will upload them into the Dna results chart on this web site. However, you can also upload them to FTDNA's y-search site. This is found on your personal FTDNA web page. This allows you to compare results with people that have tested from different companies.

The Doty-Doughty Yahoo Group site is our message center for communications, relevant DNA and family information. Please refrain from posting any other subjects. If you have research material or links to share, post under Files and Links, and Non-Testee’s can add their lineage if they so desire. You can also add your photo’s of the ancestors. The Doty Doughty Surname DNA Project has no commercial affiliation with any profit making organization and receives no compensation for services or expenses involved with the project. At present, the webpages and associated web site involved with this project is for information, lineages, and posting DNA results of participants who choose to make their information available.

The Doty Doughty Family Project receives group rate discounts at FTDNA, that by no means suggests a business partnership or other relationship between the Project and the Laboratory. All funds are payable only and directly to the Laboratory. The group organizers will not be responsible for the DNA, for the care, handling or be involved in any mediation between the Participant and the Laboratory.

While a match between two participants may indicate that they share a common male ancestor, it will not identify the specific ancestor and there is no guarantee that every participant will match another participant. The Y-DNA test is done for genealogical purpose and has no information on physical characteristics or other inherited traits in your results.

By participation in the project, the participant agrees to all conditions of the Project.

The DotyDoughtyDNA project is a independent group, not part of the Mayflower Society, or the Edward Doty Society, or any other group., No membership dues. You may view, download and print material from this website, you must not copy, sell, resell, or otherwise exploit our website or material for commercial purpose, without our consent.
